What Haven will not do
The plainest version of our limits and our safety protocol — written for the person who's worried, not for a lawyer.
If someone talks about self-harm
This is our published safety protocol. Every message a person sends is checked for signs of crisis before any guide replies — first by a direct check for crisis language, then by a safety screen. If either one detects that someone may be thinking about suicide or self-harm, Haven does not continue the conversation as if nothing happened and does not let its guide "talk them through it."
Instead it stops, sets the guide style aside, and responds with a single reviewed crisis message that points to real, human help — in the United States, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988); in Canada, 9-8-8. That safety response always comes first, no matter how much of a person's free allowance is left — a paywall or a signup prompt can never appear in front of it.

What Haven cannot do: it cannot call 911 or 988 for you, cannot contact your family, cannot send anyone to your location, and cannot keep you safe. It is software. In a genuine emergency, a real person or emergency services is the only thing that can help — please reach them.
What Haven does with your words
Your reflections are tied to your account so you can read them back across your own signed-in devices. Message text is sent to the AI provider for one purpose only: to run the safety check and generate the reply you asked for. That's it.
What your words are never used for
- They are never sold, rented, or shared with advertisers.
- They are never used to target ads — Haven runs no ads.
- They are never made public, and never shown to another Haven user unless you deliberately share them — see Together below.
- They are never used as a substitute for a professional's judgment about your safety or your health.
What Together will not do
Together is a conversation for two with a coach in the middle. It will not tell you who is right — there is no verdict at the end of one. It is not couples therapy: nobody in it is licensed, nothing is being assessed, and it does not carry the legal confidentiality a therapist's room does. It cannot see either of you, so tone, faces and silences never arrive. And it will not decide whether you stay together — nobody outside your relationship has enough to make that call, and software has considerably less.
It is also the wrong place entirely if there is fear, control or coercion between you. If you are afraid of the other person, being monitored or threatened, a shared conversation with them is not safe and nothing in it will be safe to say. In the US the National Domestic Violence Hotline is free, around the clock, on 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.
Who Haven is the wrong choice for
Being honest about this matters more than signing you up. Havenis the wrong tool if you are in crisis or immediate danger; if you need a diagnosis, medication, or treatment; if you are managing a serious condition that needs a clinician; or if you're looking for something to replace the people and professionals in your life. In any of those cases, Haven is not enough, and it will keep saying so — a licensed professional or a crisis line is the right next step.
